It all began when my dog, Bear, was misdiagnosed with end-stage liver disease, and the vet recommended euthanasia. I refused to give up on him because I suspected that his condition was caused by ingesting a toxic mix of onions, leeks, and garlic—foods that are extremely harmful to dogs.

Determined to help him recover, I dove into endless research on how to detoxify his liver and the types of foods that could aid in its recovery. The list included a lot of fruits and vegetables. But like most dogs, Bear absolutely hated them. In fact, he’s the pickiest dog I’ve ever met—he won’t eat anything he doesn’t like, and it was even harder when he was sick.

So, I decided to blend the fruits and veggies using our Vitamix, but I also added beef liver for extra nutrition. I then syringe-fed him this mixture—fruits, vegetables, beef liver, and water—every 2 hours for five days straight. Slowly but surely, Bear started to get better each day. Now, at 15 years old, Bear is still going strong and is an essential part of our business. He’s the first to try our new products and flavors, and if he doesn’t like it, it doesn’t make the cut!

This is how our freeze-dried "Smoothie Bites" for dogs was born.

I love my dogs so much that I sometimes wish I could keep them with me forever. While that’s not possible, the least I can do is extend our time together by learning how to feed them better. That’s how I came up with our Smoothie Bites recipe. Healthy dog treats doesn’t have to be complicated, and I’m so proud to be able to share these unique, nutritious treats with other dog parents.

For a long time, we’ve been inspired by TOMS Shoes' "One for One" initiative.

That’s why we’ve committed to dedicating a portion of our profits to support small animal shelters and communities in underdeveloped countries—places where people often receive little to no help from their local communities. Our co-founder, Jay, was born in one of these countries and has seen firsthand the struggles that many people face every day.
